“ Soldier’s Heart ”

Paul Lee McWhorter Western Life Series

Living outside four walls with only your wits and a sound horse,

a good tarp,  a Colt 45, and a Code of honor to protect you.

 ~

Paul McWhoter gets called to the coast of Lousiana when one of his former Infantrymen is accused of murder and his family' is under attack. Clyde Darrow cries out for help and Paul McWhorter feels duty bound to reply although ithe task seems beyond hopeless - for Clyde is condemned for a murder there is no proof he committed simply because he is less well liked than the murdered man! What we know today as PTSD was called 'Soldier's heart' in the Civil War Era, when a soldier couldn't stand down from the stresses of battle even after he comes home. But there is always something more than meets the eye in intense, emotional confrontation, and this is no exception as Paul McWhorter and Clyde Darrow soon discover...when even the local Indians coordinating an attack on the town leave him to his misery!

The Paul Lee McWhorter Western Life Series

A Federal Marshall takes his family with him on his travels in the years following the American Civil War, loaning his strength to small ranchers and farmers unable to defend themselves against the men who would use the rawness of the now-States and Territories to their own advantage. These earthy, down home books are about Justice on behalf of the ordinary citizen rather than taking down the bad guys by force

" A Necessary Portal "

Fall, tress in field

Twenty-one year old Sharayah Dubois was adopted at nine-years of age by Rick and Marge Wyatt late in their lives when they finally came to grips with the death of their only child Dick as a teenager. To celebrate her milestone birthday, they have invited her to share the first three weeks of their six-week ‘Second Honeymoon’. Shortly after her return Stateside, to stay with Marge's elderly father, so as not to miss the first week of classes, a jihadist attack by young militants on the isolated Dubai Island used by Westerners and their supporters becomes a horrific reality for the quiet twenty-one-year old college sophomore and her family.

.

While eluding capture with her husband Rick, Marge Wyatt accidentally drops their only connection: a cell phone, in a seldom-used hallway.  It's brought to the older leader of the teen Jihadists who uses it to convince her father Drew Slocomb they already hold the couple hostage and that his total surrender to them is the only condition for the safe release of his beloved daughter and of his son-in-law. He flies publicly to the Island, while Sharayah follows secretively; accompanying an Israeli agent assigned to sneak in and release them privately, without the outside world being any the wiser. Sharayah is shocked to discover that her mild-mannered grandfather is nothing like the man she always assumed, but then, neither are her parents! Even the volcanic bedrock below the  hotel holds its share of secrets!

.

But when the bloody siege extends to a third day no one outside the building suspects the delay is unintentional! The original goal to attract sufficient foreign journalists to witness the death of Andrew Wyatt and then inflict the maximum amount of terror that a mere seven member terrorist cell could hope to accomplish, by exploding a ‘dirty’ bomb to destroy the island, casting up as much radioactive debris around the world in the atmosphere as possible with a limited amount of plutonium, is delayed by the accidental discovery of a secret cache of guns, ammunition, missiles, grenades and rocket launchers hidden in caves carved under the hotel that is secretly owned by the Wyatt family! The attackers must hastily gather a flotilla of local boats to remove and hide the vast army-sized store of guns and ammunition without drawing the attention of the reporters they have lured to the tropical paradise, who are now bored with the endless stalemate.

.

During the course of the story, the Reader is drawn deeper and deeper into the internal realities of the conflict until no one is left to stop the final connection and detonation of the Jihadist’s determined march toward martyrdom but Shaw and her wounded father Rick!
