2010
As I just rose from my bed late on a December's eve, I was struck by the luminous glow of the
lights in the buildings that frame my view of Spokane Washington's cityscape skyline; the moving car lights along the
busy city streets glowing like rounded diamonds, complementing the festive sparkle of the Christmas lights strung on
the trees that line the downtown sidewalks, and I was deeply and utterly enchanted by this Chanukah Evening scene of living
lights. At sixty-five I am nearing the end of my journey with no home, no family, but few regrets. I have one Cat, one friend,
one GOD in whom I delight but I ached that I, like millions of others, will slip away with no sign I was ever here...until
I realized why I persist in clacking away at this site. It is my Legacy, proof that once upon a lifetime a dreamer walked
here, and though I, like the lights now so luminous against the velvet night skyline will blink and go out, there was joy
in the journey and perhaps, for most of us, that will have to be enough, eh, my Friend? But in this moment, as thee and I connect, I am richer for the having been here
and for my persistence in reaching out..for when the stars in the sky fade into the light, they remain...a promise of what
is to be.
